As Edwina Forest and Adrian Norris emphasized their admiration to be Australian and celebrated Australian heritage, it is such a relief to know their Aje Resort 2020 show was opened with speech by Yvonne Weldon, a board member of Sydney’s Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council. Words about the Gadigal people who were the indigenous residents of Sydney signified how the show paid cultural respect to the native history of Australia.
The rest of the event, part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (12-18 May 2019), appeared to talk more on the way the duo designers perceives their Australian identity. Elements of Australian reference such as golden wattle, New South Wales map, and kangaroo patch are all incorporated in designs which are heavily influenced by classic European nuance. Victorian puff sleeves to layered ruffles become substantial features in their modern pieces.
